Major shocking news in the country of Morocco, when All three major Moroccan telecommunication companies partner up to ban VoIP in the entire country, and that include shutting down Voice/video calls on Skype, Viber and Whatsapp.

The ban is only on 3G & 4G Phone users, so Moroccans can still make Phone or video calls through WiFi by the services of the telecom providers.

VoIP is the best nightmare of Telecommunication companies in Morocco.

Just Recently, 4G just got introduced to the country by these three Moroccan telecommunication companies, and rumors says that the ban of VoIP services are for financial and commercial reasons that are affecting the big companies.

“l’Agence nationale de la réglementation des télécommunications ANRT” The National Regulation Agency of Telecommunications responded after two days of the ban, saying that the three major companies own the license of telecommunication in the Kingdom of Morocco and they are eligible to make such decisions and have the right to shut down any service they want for financial or commercial reasons. All of this announcements are making citizens go crazy because of the fear of not being able to use Skype or making video calls anymore. and that is gonna be a major issue.

Millions of users from Morocco use Viber, Skype and WhatsApp on a daily basis. and it’s hard to believe that Whatsapp gets banned by Moroccan telecommunication companies or any an other service.

Update: The Moroccan telecom providers released the ban that lasted about 6 months that caused many “online protests”.
